Answers to what people actually ask. If yours is not here, write — the address is at the bottom, and a person reads it.
- Where did my original video go?
- It depends on where it came from, and the app says which on the conversion's row. A video you picked from Files is held in the app's own store for as long as you set under Keep originals for, and Put back restores it. A video from Photos was removed by iOS, which puts it in Recently Deleted for 30 days — open Photos and restore it there. Only you can, which is why the app cannot do it for you.
- Why does my history say “could still free” instead of “freed”?
- Because both copies still exist. Compressing makes a smaller file; it does not by itself take any space back, and the app refuses to claim it did. The number turns into space freed the moment you delete the original.
- Why does it want access to all my photos?
- To scan. With limited access the app only ever sees the videos you hand it one at a time, so it cannot rank your library or tell you what is worth compressing. Limited access also means every video is copied on import and the original cannot be removed afterwards — which is the part that actually frees space. The app works either way, and says which mode it is in.
- Why is my video “already as small as it can get”?
- Because it is. Some videos — screen recordings, footage already compressed once, anything short and still — are close enough to the quality limit that re-encoding would cost visible quality to save almost nothing. The app would rather tell you than waste twenty minutes proving it. Trimming it or removing its audio still saves something.
- The conversion stopped on its own.
- Three things stop it deliberately, and each says so: the device got too warm, the battery got low, or the app went to the background. iOS allows about 30 seconds of encoding in the background, so a long job needs the app open and the screen on. Nothing is lost — the job resumes where it stopped, at most ten seconds behind.
- Can I try it before buying?
- Yes, and not with a trial period. Videos up to 60 seconds are free forever, at every quality tier — not a reduced-quality demo. The purchase removes the length limit. Scanning, previewing, trimming, cropping and the history are all free at any length.
- Is it a subscription?
- No. It is one purchase, it does not renew, and it is Family Shareable.
- Does it work without an internet connection?
- Entirely. The app makes no network request of its own; the only time it needs the network is to complete or restore a purchase, because that goes through Apple.
- Will it work on my iPad?
- Yes — the layout uses the wider screen for a queue table and an inspector. It needs iOS or iPadOS 17.
Reporting a problem
Tell me what you did, what happened, and what you expected instead. If a specific video is involved, its length, roughly how large it is, and where it came from — Photos or Files — narrows it down faster than anything else. Your device model and iOS version help too.
Please do not send the video itself. Nothing about your library ever reaches me, and I would rather keep it that way — a description is almost always enough.
