Terms of Use
Last updated 2 October 2026.
The first part binds every version. The Mac, iPhone and iPad, and Windows versions are licensed and sold differently, each set out in its own part:
- All versions — the free version, AI costs, your content, high-risk uses, no warranty
- Mac — Apple's licence agreement, App Store purchase and refunds
- iPhone and iPad — Apple's licence agreement, App Store purchase and refunds
- Windows — these terms alone, and the licence
All versions
The free version and JustTalk Pro
Every version is fully unlocked for a seven-day trial, then keeps working as a free version with a daily limit. Unlocking it for good is a one-time purchase, not a subscription: nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel. How each platform sells it is in its part.
The purchase removes the daily limits — on dictations, phrases, actions and, on iPhone and iPad, typing fixes — and the length cap on dictated text. Every backend, mode and dictionary is available without it. With a cloud AI service, use is still limited by your access to that service: its plan and its limits.
Third-party AI services, and who pays for them
JustTalk does not include the speech and language models it uses. You choose where they run. If you choose a cloud service — Google, OpenAI, Groq, Mistral, Anthropic, OpenRouter or any other endpoint you configure — you are the customer of that provider, not of us. You create the account, you hold the API key, and that provider charges you directly for everything the app sends on your behalf. Those charges are additional to the price of this app. They are governed by your agreement with that provider, and we cannot see them, cap them, waive them or refund them. Usage grows with how much you dictate and with the model you pick, so check your provider's pricing and set a spending limit there if you want one. Running the models locally instead costs nothing beyond your own hardware.
Your words, and what you point the app at
What you dictate is yours. If you configure a cloud backend, you are responsible for having the right to send that content to the provider you chose, and for complying with their terms. Keys you enter are yours to manage.
The models the app can use
JustTalk ships no speech or language model of its own. Optional local language models are downloaded from their own publishers and are covered by their own licences, which the app shows under Acknowledgements. Which on-device speech recogniser each version uses is in its part.
What the app does not do
It shows no advertising, contains no social features, and makes no network request that you have not configured. See the privacy policy.
High-risk uses, and publishing AI text
JustTalk is not intended for high-risk uses under the EU AI Act — such as decisions about employment, education, creditworthiness, law enforcement, migration or justice — and you must not rely on it for them. If you publish text generated with AI to inform the public on matters of public interest, you are responsible for disclosing that it was generated by AI, unless a person has reviewed or edited it and takes editorial responsibility for it (Article 50(4)). More in the AI statement.
No warranty
The app is provided as is. Transcription and polishing are performed by statistical models and will sometimes be wrong; check anything that matters before you send it. To the extent permitted by law, and without limiting any rights you have as a consumer, no warranty is given.
Mac
The Mac app is licensed, not sold, under Apple's Standard End User License Agreement, which applies in full; these terms add to it and do not replace it.
Purchase and refunds
JustTalk Pro for Mac is bought once on the Mac App Store and unlocks the Mac app only.
App Store purchases are processed by Apple. Refunds are Apple's to grant, through reportaproblem.apple.com. If a purchase is refunded, the app returns to its free version.
On-device transcription
Whisper, through WhisperKit, downloaded on request.
iPhone and iPad
The iPhone and iPad app, with its keyboard, is licensed, not sold, under Apple's Standard End User License Agreement, which applies in full; these terms add to it and do not replace it.
Purchase and refunds
JustTalk Pro for iPhone and iPad is bought once on the App Store, separately from the Mac one, and unlocks the app on every iPhone and iPad signed in with the same Apple Account.
App Store purchases are processed by Apple. Refunds are Apple's to grant, through reportaproblem.apple.com. If a purchase is refunded, the app returns to its free version.
On-device transcription
The speech recogniser built into the system; nothing to download.
Windows
The Windows app is not an Apple product. Apple's licence agreement does not apply to it; the terms on this page apply on their own.
The licence
A Windows licence is not on sale yet. Until it is, the Windows app runs its free trial and then the free version. Its price, how it is sold and how a refund is asked for will be set out here before it goes on sale.
On-device transcription
Whisper, through Faster-Whisper, downloaded on request.
Changes
These terms may change with a new version of the app. The date above changes with them, and a material change comes with the release that causes it.
