JustTalk

AI statement

Last updated 2 October 2026.

JustTalk uses AI models made by others. It ships no AI model of its own: you choose the service that recognises your speech and the one that polishes your text. This page explains, in plain language, how that fits the EU AI Act. It is how we read our obligations, not legal advice.

What JustTalk is under the EU AI Act

JustTalk is an AI system that we publish under our own name. It builds on general-purpose AI models from other companies, reached through their own interfaces, and the provider is your choice: for example OpenAI, Google Gemini, Anthropic, Groq, Mistral or a server you run yourself, and on Apple devices Apple's own on-device models. We do not train, publish or sell a general-purpose AI model ourselves.

JustTalk helps you write. It makes no decisions about people and scores no one, and it is not a high-risk AI system in the sense of the Act.

How AI output is marked

  • Polishing a dictation and Fix my typing are assistive editing: they tidy up your own words (punctuation, filler words, spelling) rather than write new content, so their result carries no separate label.
  • Text the app generates is labelled as AI where you see it in the app: an instruction written for you by AI, on every platform, and on iPhone and iPad the result of an Action. On Mac and Windows an Action’s result replaces the selected text directly in the other app, so it carries no label there; meeting minutes and summaries are written to files, which carry the marker line below.
  • Files the app writes, such as meeting minutes and transcripts, carry the line “Generated with AI by JustTalk”, followed by the service and model in brackets. Markdown and text files have it as a header line and WebVTT subtitles as a NOTE block. SRT subtitles have none, because the format has no place for comments.

If you publish what it writes

The Act gives you a duty of your own (Article 50(4)). If you publish text generated with AI to inform the public on matters of public interest, you must disclose that it was generated by AI — unless a person has reviewed or edited it and takes editorial responsibility for the publication.

What JustTalk is not for

JustTalk is not intended for high-risk uses, and must not be relied on for decisions in them, among others:

  • hiring, promotion, dismissal or other decisions about employment
  • admission to education, or marking exams and assessments
  • assessing creditworthiness
  • law enforcement, migration, asylum or border control
  • the administration of justice
  • running critical infrastructure

Where your voice and text go

Only to the services you configure: your audio to the speech service you chose, your text to the polishing service you chose, each under that provider’s own terms. Nothing goes to us. With Privacy Mode on, everything stays on your device. The details are in the privacy policy.

See it in the app

The screen Your data & AI shows, live, where your voice and your text go with the settings you have now. On iPhone and iPad: Settings → About → Your data & AI. On Mac and Windows: in the About window.

Changes

This statement changes as the app and the rules around it change, and the date at the top changes with it.
